With or without spaces?
Publishers, translators and universities usually count characters with spaces, and so do most form and ad limits. A standard page used by translators is 1800 characters with spaces.
How words are counted
A word is a run of letters or digits; punctuation doesn’t count. Hyphenated words follow the browser’s text segmentation rules, so totals can differ by a few words from word processors that treat numbers and abbreviations differently.
Text message length
A text message in the GSM alphabet holds 160 characters, or 153 per part when split. Any character outside that alphabet switches the encoding to UCS-2: 70 characters, or 67 per part.
Common questions
Is the text I paste stored?
No. It is counted in your browser and goes neither to a server nor into the page address.
