Result
- Net
- 1,000.00
- VAT 23%
- 230.00
- Gross
- 1,230.00
VAT = net × 23%
gross = net × 1.23
Amounts are rounded to the nearest grosz (hundredth), half up, as on an invoice.
How VAT is calculated
- From net: VAT = net × rate, gross = net + VAT. At 23%: gross = net × 1.23.
- From gross: VAT = gross × 23 / 123, net = gross − VAT. Taking 23% of the gross amount overstates the VAT.
- Example: 1000 net at 23% is 230 VAT and 1230 gross. 1000 gross is 813.01 net and 186.99 VAT.
Rates
The rates offered are Poland’s: 23% standard, 8% and 5% reduced, and 0%. For other countries choose “other rate” and type it in, for example 20% in the UK or 19% in Germany.
Rounding
Amounts are rounded to whole cents, half up. On an invoice with many lines, the sum of per-line VAT can differ by a cent from VAT worked out on the total. The calculator works on a single amount.

Common questions
How much VAT is in 100 gross at 23%?
18.70 (100 × 23 / 123), leaving 81.30 net. 23% of 100 is 23, but only when 100 is the net amount.
How do I get net from gross?
Divide the gross amount by 1 plus the rate (1.23 at 23%) and round to the cent. The “From gross” mode does this and shows the VAT too.
